Description and Reviews
From The Publisher:

Numerous studies have provided conclusive evidence that Emotional Intelligence is crucial in leadership in the business environment. It is even more crucial in Asia where there is a higher tendency for emotions to be hidden beneath the surface of daily business interactions. Emotions are assets for a leader when wisely used, and a source of disruption if ignored.

EQ and Leadership in Asia provides business leaders in Asia with the keys to using emotions as allies to face practical leadership challenges.

In the first part of this book, Emotional Intelligence is presented in a clear way, in all its dimensions. Readers who have no idea about it can get a good understanding of what it is, why it matters particularly in Asia, and how to systematically develop their own EI. The contribution of Asian thought to the field of Emotional Intelligence is also discussed.

The second part of the book contains a review of a series of practical challenges that leaders in Asia have to face and a detailed look at the applications of EI in facing these challenges. Offering practical exercises, real-life examples, and valuable applications from Asia, this compelling book is essential reading for leaders who want to inspire and influence their people and organizations to greater success.

"Leadership is a relationship, and all relationships are fueled by emotions. They run strong, or run out, depending on how intelligent leaders are at reading and managing those emotions. EQ and Leadership in Asia is an amazingly clear and engaging portrait of what emotional intelligence means and how leaders can use it to inspire others to greatness. Sebastien Henry has given us the rare gift of a wonderfully accessible book, full of real-life examples and insightful practice sessions, as well as culturally relevant applications of this immensely important message. Don't just read this book. Put it to work. Use it. EQ and Leadership in Asia is essential reading for every leader who resides or does business in Asia. It is certain to change the way you relate to others, and how they relate to you."
—Jim Kouzes, Deans Executive Fellow of Leadership, Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University, Co-author, The Leadership Challenge

"This terrific new book by Sebastian Henry provides those of us interested in Asian business with a very valuable contribution to the literature. First, it provides an easy to understand review of the importance of emotional intelligence to business. Second, it very nicely applies this understanding specifically to business leadership in Asia. Henry writes in a very straightforward and easy to read style. His personal examples, practice exercises, case studies and end notes all add to the value of this work. Anyone who works in Asia, leader or not, as well as anyone simply interested in business practice in Asia, will enjoy this delightful volume."
—Frank T. Gallo, Ph.D., Chief Leadership Consultant, Greater China, Aon Hewitt, Author, Business Leadership in China

"Sebastien Henry provides thoughtful insight to the subject of emotion and leadership. He understands that emotions are human and the expressions are local. With humility and the strength of his personal experience he lays out a practical guide to help leaders develop essential relationship skills. In todays world the key to leadership success will be the ability to engage, empower, and motivate others. This book shines a light on that path."
—Phillip Sandahl, Co-author, Co-Active Coaching: New skills for Coaching People Toward Success in Work and Life

"Sebastien Henry's book is a great addition to the growing evidence that emotional intelligence is essential for leaders today. EQ enables people to achieve their goals through resonant relationship while living a fulfilling life. I found Henry's book both very practical, enjoyable to read, and insightful. This book has many great exercises for the mind and heart, is grounded in the latest theory and research on the brain, and brings a compassionate voice into the debate on how leaders should lead. I am sure that it will be a great help to leaders in Asia who want to build highly effective teams and create high engagement from their people, whether they are Asian or Westerners. I highly recommend it."
—Frances Johnston, Ph.D., Founder, Teleos Leadership Institute, Co-author, Becoming a Resonant Leader: Develop Your Emotional Intelligence, Renew Your Relationships, Sustain Your Effectiveness
